Sports Coaching and Development


Overview of the course

Welshpool High School have teamed up with LLS to provide a unique sports course. LLS are market experts in training sixth form students to becoming the next generation of sports industry leaders. LLS have centres in various locations across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Tenerife and Qatar.

When you’ve decided to study sport and want to keep your future career options open, this could be the course for you. You’ll learn everything from physiology and anatomy to nutrition and fitness testing. The only decision you’ll be left to make is your next career move or whether you’ll go to university.

If your aim is to work with children, coach in an elite setting or work at senior level, this course will give you everything you need to kick-start your journey. This practical based course provides you with a variety of weekly work experience and access to professional settings.

Fulltime: 3 Day on site delivery of theory and practical, 2 days work experience. (additional A-levels can be discussed on an individual basis)

Work Experience: Students will be supported to gain 1000 hours work experience over the duration of the course. The first placement will be generic in local primary schools, Welshpool PE department and Powys sport development. The second placement will be specific to the career path of the student, for example, if your career goal is to be physiotherapist then your placement will be with a physiotherapist. These 1000 hours are golden in developing employment ready skills and helping students’ CVs jump to the top of the pile.

Opportunities

University The vast majority of our students access University after the two year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness). The highest grades on this course, D*D*D* calculates to 168 UCAS points and is the equivalent to A*A*A* at A level.

Career jobs: Many LLS students become PE teachers, physiotherapist, personal trainers, elite strength & conditioning coaches and global sports coaches.

Apprenticeships: University is not for everyone, LLS can help support course graduates in gaining sports coaching apprenticeships.
