Overview of the course

AS/A2 English Language is placed in its wider social and global contexts and students will look at a wide range of texts from biographies, fiction and non-fiction, writing for children and television scripts. Units include Exploring Language: encouraging learners to engage with language use in different situations. Language Issues and Original and Critical Writing: encouraging learners to engage with language issues and to use language creatively. Language over Time: encourages learners to engage with language across time. It gives an opportunity to apply analytical skills and knowledge of language change. Spoken Language and Creative Re-casting: encourages learners to engage with spoken language and to produce an original piece of writing. It is designed to give opportunities to apply analytical skills and to communicate creatively in different ways. The final Unit: Language and Identity gives opportunities for language research which has a personal relevance. It is designed to engage learners with the theme of language and identity.

Opportunities

After completing the programme, successful candidates may progress onto multiple courses at University, as well as various employment opportunities within the industry.
